Mark R. Leary
Mark Leary is Professor of
Psychology and Neuroscience and Director of the Interdisciplinary Behavioral
Research Center at Duke University.
He obtained his B.A. from West Virginia Wesleyan College and his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Florida. Dr. Leary has taught at Denison University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Wake Forest University, where he also served as department chair. His research interests focus on social motivation and emotion, and on processes involving self-reflection and self-relevant thought. He has written or edited 12 books and over 200 scholarly articles and chapters. He was the 2010 recipient of the Lifetime Career Award from the International Society for Self and Identity and a 2015 co-recipient of the Scientific Impact Award from the Society for Experimental Social Psychology.
Dr. Leary is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and the Association for Psychological Science, as well as a member of the Society of Experimental Social Psychologists, the International Association for Relationship Research, the International Society for Self and Identity, and the Society of Southeastern Social Psychologists. He is former President of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
Dr. Leary was the founding editor of Self and Identity, served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology, and is former editor of Personality and Social Psychology Review. He has also served on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Journal of Personality, Psychological Review, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Personality and Social Psychology Review, Emotion, Psychological Review, and Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology.
