A distinctive group of feisty songbirds, chickadees and titmice are often the first to respond to "pishing" and are familiar backyard birds at feeders. In NC, Carolina Chickadees are found nearly statewide. Only at the highest ranges, roughly above 4500' - 5000' (for example in the Great Smoky Mountains and the Great Balsam Mountains), can one reliably find Black-capped Chickadees.

Chickadees are very acrobatic as they dig into clusters of leaves or fruits in search of bugs & seeds.
