Angiogenesis - Vascular maturation
Whereas VEGF regulates most of the early steps in angiogenesis, the Angiopoietins are required for vascular maturation. Ang2 likely plays a role in regression of unwanted vascular sprouts, while Ang1 induces recruitment of peri-endothelial cells, including pericytes and vascular smooth muscle cells, which are necessary for the formation of stable blood vessels.
