ENG. . For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

^23:12 porque el que se enaltece será humillado, y el que se humilla será enaltecido

^23:13 "¡ Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque cerráis el reino de los cielos delante de los hombres. Pues vosotros no entráis, ni dejáis entrar a los que están entrando
ENG. "But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

^23:14 Ay de vosotros, escribas y Fariseos, hipócritas! porque coméis las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacéis larga oración: por esto llevaréis mas grave juicio. ENG. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers; therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

^23:15 "¡ Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque recorréis mar y tierra para hacer un solo prosélito; y cuando lo lográis, le hacéis un hijo del infierno dos veces más que vosotros
ENG. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

^23:16 "¡Ay de vosotros, guías ciegos! Pues decís: 'Si uno jura por el santuario, no significa nada; pero si jura por el oro del santuario, queda bajo obligación.'
ENG. "Woe unto you, ye blind guides, who say, `Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.'

^23:17 ¡ Necios y ciegos! ¿Cuál es más importante: el oro o el santuario que santifica al oro?

^23:18 O decís: 'Si uno jura por el altar, no significa nada; pero si jura por la ofrenda que está sobre el altar, queda bajo obligación.'
ENG. And ye say, `Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is liable.'

^23:19 ¡ Ciegos! ¿Cuál es más importante: la ofrenda o el altar que santifica a la ofrenda?
ENG. Ye fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

^23:23 "¡ Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque entregáis el diezmo de la menta, del eneldo y del comino; pero habéis omitido lo más importante de la ley, a saber, el juicio, la misericordia y la fe. Era necesario hacer estas cosas sin omitir aquéllas
ENG. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law: judgment, mercy, and faith. These ought ye to have done and not to leave the other undone.

^23:24 ¡ Guías ciegos, que coláis el mosquito pero tragáis el camello!

^23:25 "¡ Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque limpiáis lo de afuera del vaso o del plato, pero por dentro están llenos de robo y de desenfreno
ENG. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

^23:26 ¡ Fariseo ciego! ¡ Limpia primero el interior del vaso para que también el exterior se haga limpio!

^23:27 "¡ Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque sois semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados que, a la verdad, se muestran hermosos por fuera; pero por dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda impureza
ENG. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but are within full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness.

^23:29 "¡ Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas y adornáis los monumentos de los justos,
ENG. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because ye build the tombs of the prophets and garnish the sepulchers of the righteous,

^23:30 y decís: 'Si hubiéramos vivido en los días de nuestros padres, no habríamos sido sus cómplices en la sangre de los profetas.'

^23:34 Por tanto, mirad; yo os envío profetas, sabios y escribas; y de ellos, a unos mataréis y crucificaréis, y a otros azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas y perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad,
ENG. Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes, and some of them ye shall kill and crucify, and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city,

ENG. that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zechariah, son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

^23:37 "¡ Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que te son enviados! ¡ Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, así como la gallina junta sus pollitos debajo de sus alas, y no quisiste!
ENG. "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
