Duke students worked in 3 different schools in 2008: (1) a Telugu-Urdu medium government primary school in Adikmet, (2) Safrani, an English-medium government-aided school (a school that s run by an NGO but is partly-funded by the state government), and (3) Bhavan's, a private high school.
In the Adikmet school, we taught English and communication skills, while in Safrani, we focused on art. In the Bhavan's High School, we demonstrated science experiments and ran a creative writing workshop.
Apart from this, we went on trips to places of historical and cultural interest, and DukeEngage participants learned conversational Telugu and Hindi.
The photos on this page reflect some of that experience.
