This lecture focuses on the key trends described in my Digital Dawn CyberTrends Web document. A brief outline is shown below, with links to sections of the CyberTrends documents as well as related Web sites.

As presented in the digital technologies lecture, the microchip and fiber optics have enabled the emergence of cyberspace as a "turning point no less decisive than the advent of the computer itself."
In 1980, Alvin Toffler (the author of several books about the future) published The Third Wave, and thus provided us with a predictive model and a way of understanding the rise of the information revolution.
Newt Gingrich, a disciple of Toffler, seems to be applying the Third Wave model in his work as Speaker of the Hourse.
There is considerable evidence that we are in a digital dawn.
It is hard for most people to see the revolution that is occuring. In fact, many people have had difficulty seeing past technology-based developments.
The Death of Distance promises to be the single most important economic force shaping society in the first half of the next century.

The Internet is the latest in a line of computing and communications paradigms. It has burst onto the scene in the last two years after a period of incubation in the academic community.
