How does the translation from original data to data matrix occur?

Procedures

1. You create a structure (or a home) in which the data will reside

2. You enter the data

3. You check the data for accuracy

4. You back up & (sometimes) print dataset

Elements of data structure:

1. File(s) & file name

2. Variable(s) & names

3. Labels for variables

4. Labels for values that variables can assume (if not quantitative variables)

All these are recorded in a code book
