Plan view. The strategy is to pull the visitor deep into the gallery as she enters the door, and from the depths of the gallery provide other visual attractions to slow her departure.
The tactics rely on the placing the "showpieces" at the deep end of the gallery, on bold graphics, a few key saturated colors (e.g. orange and blue) to accent the displays.
The meteorites are mounted against light usaturated tans or warm grays to bring out their colors. The walls should be equally subdued. The ceiling should be flat black with track lighting.

View on entering the doorway and looking left. The door can be seen to the left. The case to the right of "History" is set aside for the "California" theme. The feel is of an open and welcoming gallery.

The themes on the left wall are "California," "Chondrites," and "Chondrites."

Wall cases, each 6' high, 4' wide and 18" deep, all glass sided except for the bottom 2' and top 6".Bold graphics (not shown in the renderings) accentuate the major themes and add color.
The meteorites themselves are exhibited against light unsaturated colors to bring out details of their subdued colors and textures.
One of 3 island cases is shown to the left, each measuring 3' x 3'.

Differentiated meteorites, including rare Martians and Lunars occupy the far and right walls. Plasma monitors flank the far wall for 24/7 graphics, instructional presentations and movies.

Continuing clockwise along the right wall are two wall cases for achondrites.

To the right of the achondrite cases is a table for available for the curator, docent or interactive displays such as hand specimens and microscopes.

View towards the entry wall shows a conference, discussion or instructional area and a wall case devoted to "UCLA People."
