Steven Demers Original information: http://www.mail-archive.com/meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com/msg36232.html “Raleigh, N.C.- (UP) - A meteor which crashed to earth last December, causing Eastern North Carolinians to fear the world had ended, is gradually being rounded up. A fragment weighing 111 pounds has been found a mile and a half from where another chunk, weighing 13 pounds, was discovered.” A Long Look at Nature: The North Carolina State Museum of Natural Science (book, Martin) A loud explosion was heard at night, in an area of 250 miles. First meteorite was found in a yard, second was recovered in a field during plowing. Flew in an east to west path from Gastonia to Farmville.
