The Longitude Problem
Maps as Navigational Instruments

How do you locate yourself on the face of the globe?
How did acurate timekeeping, technology, and social context change the face of cartography?

"Lost at Sea" tells the story of an evolving technology in a cultural setting (complete with human jealousies, political intrigues, and desires for monetary gain) and its influence on map making. It is an excellent cultural study of science. How might you tell an equally engaging story about the ways computation is currently changing the face of cartography?
