Angiogenesis - Recruitment of bone marrow-derived cells

Vascular growth factors mediate their effects by binding and activating their cognate receptors, which are typically expressed on endothelial cells. However, VEGF receptors are also expressed on hematopoietic cells, including monocytes and bone marrow-derived circulating cells, which contribute to angiogenesis by upregulating VEGF and other angiogenic factors.
