Policy Impact:
Atila Abdulkadiroglu's research on school choice has led to the design and implementation of better admissions policies in school choice programs in the US, including Boston (MA), Camden (NJ), Chicago (IL), Denver (CO), Indianapolis (IN), Newark (NJ), New Orleans (LA), New York City (NY) and Washington DC. His work was mentioned prominently in the scientific background article for the 2012 Nobel memorial prize in Economics, which was awarded jointly to Alvin E. Roth and Lloyd S. Shapley for the theory of stable allocations and the practice of market design. His work on research design for data from centralized admissions systems contributes to the evaluation of education policies and understanding demand patterns in schooling.

Short Biography:
Atila Abdulkadiroglu joined the Department of Economics at Duke University in the Fall of 2006. He taught at Northwestern University and Columbia University before coming to Duke. He received his PhD in Economics at the University of Rochester. His research has led to the design and implementation of better admissions policies in school choice programs in the US, He has consulted several school districts in redesigning student assignment systems, including Boston (MA), Camden (NJ), Chicago (IL), Denver (CO), Indianapolis (IN), Newark (NJ), New Orleans (LA), New York City (NY) and Washington DC. His current research on economics of education develops methodological foundations for research design with data from centralized admissions systems. He is a recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship and a National Science Foundation CAREER award.
