Alice: Artificial Life, Culture & Evolution
A Realworld Simulation Laboratory: How to describe, understand and explain the complex adaptation of individuals to their social, technological and natural environments. A workshop in building experimental multiagent and evolutionary computer models with which to study alternative "what-if" scenarios (counterfactuals). A critical look at complexity science at the cutting edge of Artificial Life, Artificial Culture and Evolutionary Computation. How must we build software agents in order that they interact evolve a credible artificial culture?

Espionage, Cryptology & Psychological Operations
A look at the complex networks of trust, secrecy and deception in the evolution of culture and in world affairs. We look at a range of case-studies from the well-documented gray and black worlds of professional intelligence practice in international relations to the less-well-documented secret practices of smaller institutions and individuals in contemporary and past industrial and non-industrial societies. Our insights may provide inspiratons for the foundations of artifial culture.

"The challenges of the 21st century will require new ways of thinking about and understanding the complex,
interconnected and rapidly changing world in which we live and work.
And the new field of complexity science is providing the insights we need to push our thinking in new directions."

The Use of Complexity Science: A Survey of Federal Departments and Agencies, Private Foundations, Universities, and Independent Education and Research Centers. A Report of the U.S. Department
of Education, October 2003.
