Alice: Artificial Life, Culture & Evolution
An introduction to complex systems and multi-causal (multiagent) simulation. A hands-on exploration of how to describe, understand and explain the adaptations of individuals to their social, technological and natural environments. A workshop in building experimental multiagent and evolutionary computer models with which we canstudy alternative "what-if" scenarios (counterfactuals). A critical look at complexity science in the fields of Artificial Life, Artificial Culture and Evolutionary Computation. An investigation into how to build software agents that interact and evolve credible culture behaviors...

Espionage, Cryptology & Psychological Operations
A look at the complex systems of trust, secrecy and deception which have evolved in culture and in world affairs. We focus on case-studies from the well-documented black world of international state-level intelligence agencies in order to understand their tradecraft and uncover the less well-documented secret practices of smaller institutions. How do these practices provide insights into human relations in today's and yesterday's industrial and non-industrial societies? How might this knowledge inspire theories of the evolution of culture and models for artifial culture?
